A couple of 10k resistors and some pots?

If you want something more elaborate, consider a made-in-China mixer like a Behringer Xenyx. They sell for less than the price of the pots and knobs.

For DJing, you'd be best off buying a used mixer like a Gemini, American DJ, Vestax, Numark, Behringer, or whatever is common in your part of the world. If I was going to build one, I'd probably go with a minimalist rotary style mixer inspired by the UREI 1620. You can find a service manual with schematics for the 1620, and there are pictures of some of the boards that show enough details to duplicate the layouts.

But, if you're just starting out, investing in a USB controller for use with a laptop is the most cost-effective.
