I'm looking to replace my subwoofer. It's an Audio X 350W RMS 700W Max sub with an FS at 25Hz, not sure of other specs.
I have searched, and considered a few drivers, but wanted some other suggestions.
I have a 1.25 Cu Ft sealed MDF box and I want the new sub to go as low (in HZ) as possible, while still being able to reliably handle 300W RMS. The old sub goes nice and really low and sounds good, so I want the new woofer to do just as good or better. I use it for my Home Theater sub, so it has to play down low.
This is now the THIRD time I've broke this woofer, the stupid aluminum wires that go to the cone keep flexing and breaking near the terminals. I was pushing my new amp on it, and killed it, when I pulled the woofer out of the box, you can see black burns where the cone wire got hot before coming apart!
What 4 ohm woofers go nice and low in a small sealed 1.25 cu ft box, and still sound good for HT?

It looks to have a high Xmax and thick rubber surround, looks good.
700W RMS to me seems like enough.

I do not recommend the Ascendant because you want to use a small sealed box where the Dayton is more at home.
If you could wait, you could go with Acoustic Elegance AV12.

Any car subs that would also do good. My sub I have now (before it broke again) sounds good, and it's a 4 ohm car sub.
I may consider a Dayton, but the speaker itself is over $130 😱
In a few local stores I saw cheap Pioneer and Sony Xplod woofers, but I'm still looking around. I'm trying to see if I can get a better speaker online first.

I've heard quite a few people saying they have been very satisfied with thier ascendent subs, both the new and old lines, but I cant remember hearing a complaint about a dayton and I've never had any trouble with partsexpress.
Bottom line, if the parameters dont lie the ascendent sub is a much better buy with 87db efficiency and 15mm Xmax vesus 88db 12mm for the dayton. You just gotta build a new box... thats easy enough!

I found a great car sub that fits my existing box perfectly and sounds great!
It's a 12" Sony Xplod Woofer with a Pentagon shaped cone. (5 sides for stiffness and less distortion and standing waves)
350W RMS, 1200W Max 87db efficiency 20-1500 Hz
Even in the SAME BOX this woofer sounds like a larger woofer compared to the old 12" woofer. The Motor structure and coil are larger on this woofer, the coil is 6 layers of wire, and this woofer has the connect wires run under the spider so they won't break or flex under high power!
This woofer also has a larger spider and surround, and at higher powers, plays louder despite the low efficiency. It also takes quite a bit of power before the cone starts to move.
Also, this sub handles the amp better, it has not blown, or bottomed out, and doesn't distort. It's actually easier now to hear when the AMP clips because the speaker plays much clearer than the old one!
The bass is so good on this car sub, that it shakes the room at low volumes, and at high volumes, makes it hard to breathe when standing next to the sub 😀

Also, I took apart the old blown woofer, and the coil is burned in the middle, and there's a rub mark on the side where the coil started to rub before it blew. Haha, too much heat and excursion
