hi
For my next aleph 3 project my first idea was:
1-dual power but the cost is high 2 x toroid
2-C-L-C 30000uF+2mH+30000uF
but i just download the service manual and:
1-there is just one power for left and right
2-80000uF for left and 80000uF for right and
no inductor
my questions:
-what is the typical setup for a diyer
maybe 10% or 50% or ?? build dual power
-and if i go like the service manual just one power
what is the normal toroid VA
-and with just one power and no regulator the
crosstalk is good ?
thanks

The absolute minimum transformer would be about 300 VA
but 600 VA is more like it - it depends on who made the
transformer. If you are using a single transformer, I recommend
a CLC or CRC split in the capacitance, which takes the ripple
down usually about 20 dB. At this level, the primary noise
contributions will come from layout and proximity of the power
transformer to the front end circuits. Placing the transformer
as far away from the gain stage as possible is well worth the
effort.

I purchased four of these for my big monoblocks and they are working like a charm! I'm running CRCRC 1250va total 208,000uf and the r's are .412 50 dales. I get 30v no load, and 25v under full load, 10A in my case. They ship fast, are off the shelf and are relatively cheap.
They seem of decent quality. Shipping to Quebec City, just to give you a rough estimate is as follows.
UPS Standard $16.80
UPS Worldwide Express $45.48
UPS Worldwide Expedited $45.86
US Postal International Air Mail $29.64
Just trying to help.

If you were looking for lots of transformer on the cheapy cheap, would a Signal BL1752:
Primary 230V Secondary 48VCT 7A & 28VCT 3A
or Primary 115V Secondary 24VCT & 14VCT
per rail from Apexjr work well? They are EI, but $7.95. Shipping to Canada might hurt, isnt bad Priority Mail in US.
