i've got a magnetic MH 400w ballast and a GE bulb, you know, one of the big 400w mh bulbs not a hqi, anyway, i'm working on an enclosure for my projector and got it up and running today, but i do not have a reflector and i am getting good light in the middle of the image, but not on the sides.... will a reflector help this? if so what is a good reflector for a large bulb like this?
you are using fresnel lense, right?
that's important to "diffuse" the light evenly for the lcd to pick up....
otherwise, maybe it's just the distance of your halide's "business end" from the lcd that is too far or something.

yes i'm using the 2 fresals from my ohp and put them together 8.5 inches from the center of the mh bulb and the lcd is going to be on top of the lenses, i'm using a transparancy with some lines drawn on it for testing and referencing
i will try some mh bulb distances tomorrow hopefully, is there a good way to do this with the bulb on? a.k.a. protection or something.... i've heard you don't have to worry about uv with the big mh bulbs, but i wasn't sure
well, i did a little testing last night and found that the recommended 8.5 inches from the center of the bulb to the lcd tray is too close, at least in my case. luckily i had added some extra space at the bottom of the enclosure in case i was going to use a reflector
