I know you can get 1/4 jacks with built in switch contacts, NC or NO. But a project I'm working on would best be served by a such a jack having an isolated NC switch. By isolated, I mean that neither of the switch contact points have any connection to the actual jack "tip" or "sleeve" contacts. If there is no such thing I'll come up with another solution, but this would be best.

Probably best to come up with a mechanical solution - perhaps to operate a micro switch as your isolated contact?

There is quite a significant movement of the socket contacts when a plug is inserted (2-3mm) which should be enough to actuate a micro switch.

Well thanks John, but I don't know. If it were just a one shot deal maybe, but that won't be the case, and I don't know how reliable I could make something like that. I'd certainly hate to do so only to find out that what I'm looking for is already made by some company already.

So you need an isolated break switch. From the Switchcraft line, many options, looks like the simplest for you would be circuit IX.

A page from Mouser with the selection they carry, and it looks like their circuit 4 on the page:

Looks like 13E would be your choice.

And of course there are others. This one is not my favorite jack, but it has isolated switching:
