FYI, this monitor is very easy to take apart. There is no ribbon connecting the vertical and horizontal boards.

there are 2 board in the monitor that look like they were grounded together

I just taped a wire to connect them and it worked fine, but I'm not sure if it was even needed. I must warn you. Be VERY careful w/ this LCD. I broke mine. I'm not sure how. I think it was too much stress on the V and H boards' cables, but it could have also overheated. I really don't know and it has really discouraged me from taking apart LCDs (but I haven't given up). I took a $250 hit with that (unless I find a cheap replacement LG-Philips for it).
My next panel I will be twice as careful w/ and I bought some polarizing film so that should reduce the heat.

did you put the lcd directly on the ohp stage?
or did you put something to raise it off the stage
to create an air flow between the two?
and did you make a frame for your lcd and cards?
cause thats the step im at now. i like how ywh made his but his lcd looks different, and i dont think i need nowhere near as big a frame. i will post pics when i start the frame

Basically, this was my brother's LCD monitor (I have to buy him a new one soon).
I took it apart once. I set it directly on the stage. I did not build a frame. The thing was very delicate. If I nudged it slightly, the picture would blank out or lose colors, etc. It did work though without overheating or anything.
I put it back together, and it was a little messed up. It seemed as if every other RED vertical line was gone. Dark blues and greens looked fine, but anything w/ red in it (including white) was missing every other vertical line.
So I took it apart to see if I could fix it. This time, I used the actualy front part of the plastic enclosure (you'll know what I'm talking about) as a stand, and it seem like it was a lot easier on the flat cables, as well as less heat. I turned it on and it worked for like 5 seconds. Now I get nothing but a black screen with a bunch of horizontal lines dropping out. I tried grounding everything that looked like it should be grounded, and it did nothing. I've tried moving it, putting slight amounts of pressure on the different flat cables, etc., and nothing works. It's F'ed up.

VERY NICE! Tell me, does the whole image get projected? Did you need a larger fresnel to do so?

yes i need a larger fersnel i have one from a elmo305 solar delux
that will project the whole image but it was scratched from shipping and im waiting for a reply from the place i bought it
as for the green thing yes its a ground strip i cut fron sheet metal
and painted i have the image projected on a pulldown shade i bought from homedepot for $20 im waiting for a 6x8 rear projection screen i won on ebay i will post more pics when i get it

Larger fresnel?

Is the elmo 305 solar delux fresnel larger? The spec for both 3M 9800 and the elmo say its 11.2". Are you certain it will take a 15" lcd panel without cutting away the corners?

the fersnel from the elmo305 solar delux is about 1/2 inch larger than the 3m 9800
in the pic below you can see that i had to cut 1/4 inch grooves to make it fit in the 3m 9800 and i modifyed the ohp top and i had to shrink the active area on the monitor about a 1/4 inch from left to right

I have a 3M 9850, I'm assuming the fresnel is the same as the 9800. This is great news. I've been looking for a solution to fit a 15" panel. I'll have to rent a router, but I'm gonna follow your footsteps.

I have the panel paranoia and Im looking for a panel thats easy to take apart etc.
I was looking at the panel in the thread " This panel kicks@$$"
but he screwwed it up somehoiw but he didnt go into details on how he did it.
Just Want to know if any problems I dont want to lose out on $250+

I think mine overheated. I had no fans, and it was on a pedestal that caused a "greenhouse effect" so it got REALLY hot. Leaving it on the glass is better if you don't have any fans because the glass acts as a heatsink and it is getting airflow from the OHP's fan.

I just did the same thing yesterday, using my broken one as a model. Doesn't look as pretty as cruser's but it works. I used a Dremel tool, and I bought the router attachment for it. Worked great. I'll post some pics this week.

i have ben using this monitor for about a week now and i havent seen any problems with it yet
as lifter said just be verry carefull when you take it apart but first
i would get the monitor and check it for bad pixels the first one i got had 3 i returned it and got one with no bad pixels
then have a gameplan ready to assemble your projector you dont want to be playing around with the lcd to much
and for god sake ground everything use a flat sheet of sheetmetal make a pattern and cut it for a continuous ground
and you should have a verry nice and cheap projector
