jcbklyny,
are there more pictures coming? I am hanging on in anticipation.
My sharp qa-1150 can't compare to a unit like this one, and your methodology has made me believe I can pull it off!
Let us know what more is to come, and when it is coming!
I can pick up one of those monitors in town today if it looks promising! I may video tape the de-construction.

Thanks again,
You get the bravest man in town award today!

JC,

No offense taken. I used to be an admin at a forum that used this software, and we eventually had to make rules to keep file size down (to avoid complaints from members). It's not a problem to have large images but everyone must remember to use the return key to put line stops to avoid the "scrolling to read text" issue. NOBODY minds good large images 🙂

Anyway...

I too am quite inspired to try this (maybe the first of the year, but sooner I hope) since you are doing a visual demo of how it comes apart. I would never have the guts to try this blind.

I dont see any good reason to go looking for a better OHP or LCD panel now that this thread is open.

JT,

I think I would like to have a copy of the video if you do one. I would even be willing to edit it and format it to a reasonable size so that it could be posted to a webpage someplace for download if you like. But maybe that was what you had in mind anyway.

CB.

I'm working on some animation for it. Lots of boring junk, sweeps, light rays, etc. It'll probably take a while, and I am going to be doing some widescreen caps from some famous movies:
Jaws
Star Wars
The Good the Bad and the Ugly
Close Encounters
The Abyss

I am looking for suggestions.
It would need to be mpeg-2 quality,
so I am down with a downloadable version.
If you have things you want me to include, let me know!
Thanks,
Jarrett

I'll be posting pics of this project until it's finished and working. I'll even be walking everyone through extending a flex cable. No soldering required.

Since I don't want to give anyone the wrong impression... the 2 flex cables to the controller are real long... no need to extend those... But there IS a flex cable attaching the boards (gate ribbon) behind the LCD that needs to be longer. (You'll see in my upcoming pics)

Yes, you CAN extend this cable! And I'll walk you through it.

Wait until it's finished. This way you can follow it step by step all the way through.

BTW... NEC 1560M for $319.

Taking the monitor apart is a piece of cake. I'm using it stock again now. I keep taking it apart and putting it back together... I want to find the best way of doing it.

*****Also, this monitor can be taken apart and returned without NEC every knowing. There are tie wraps used as locks so they know whats been removed... when taking apart the rear it looks like these have to be cut to countinue.... they dont! None of the tie wraps have to be cut to take the unit apart the right way.

john, which 1560M are you talking about?

1560M or 1560M-bk? becuz the BK is 319$ the M is 313$

Off topic
i hear that ViewSonics are easy to take a part on that site ther is also a VB500 which is 450:1 as well 🙂 and its 305$ if i sell my panel for enough i will try it

Wow... in a week the price went down almost 10 bucks. I think I paid 321 for the white one last monday. From what I can see the 1560M and 1560M-BK are exactly the same as I know NEC offers this model in both white and black.

So buy the cheaper one 🙂

As I said in another post. The first one I got from them had a bad pixel. I called them and they shipped me a replacement within 48 hours. Only bad thing is they dont pay to have the bad unit shipped back to them... which is only 11 bucks UPS insured.

Almost ready with a new set of pics... I'm just finishing up extending the flex ribbon connecting the 2 boards. It has 16 connections... and I wouldn't say it's hard to do... just time consuming. 70% finished and it's taken me about 3 hours so far.

I'm doing this first because I think the key to not frying a new LCD is not handling the 2 boards unless you have to. Plus I'd like to put up an easier tutorial then what I've seen on the boards. This way more people will give it a try and use better panels.

The 1560VM also looks identical to 1560M so you can dismantle it and *extend the flat cable* (which you must do with this one anyway) using the instructions posted in 1560M thread. I've got BenQ FP567s already, but we need another TFT anyway (one for the projector and the other for this PC), so I might also get the 1560VM (haven't seen it in stores in Finland but it sells for about 320 EUR in Germany).

Could you make it more clear mhelin?
You actualy mean that you have to realy extend the cables
with the 1560VM like soldering involved?I did not understand
that!

Jcbklyny wrote that you can dismantle it as easy as the 1545
that does not need to extend any flat cable plus nowhere in
this thread is writen something like that!

I am waitting to see some pics from Jcbklyny with the lcd fully
apart so i will know if i will have to extend any flat cable,
because i did it once with my L360 eizo and i will never do it
again to much trouble plus i am lucky the eizo worked!

Please lets make this clear about extending cables it is very
important!

I know that Jcbklyny will be able to answer to that!
