Here I had lots of troubles with both, TI and Motorola (On) IC's. As an example, UC384x from the former and MC34063 from the later, are basically, pieces of **** with solderable pins.
The various makes have small differences in circuit and major variation in transistor performance and layout. This means secondary but important parameters can be all over the place, supply rejection, low frequency distortion, RF rejection, flicker noise.....

Agree, but cell phone chargers manufacturers don't understand this point. Some time ago, I saw thousands of PC motherboard converted in thrash because of MC34063. But continue with the NE.
