Hello,
First post 🙂 I have had a good search but nothing is jumping out that has “live parts” I have a creek audio 4140 that’s only playing mono on the phono input. I think the CD player that was used with it shorted and blew the pre amp. It’s currently using a NE542N
I think I can get an old replacement, I just wondered if anyone has any recommendations / previous.
Cheers

NE542N is a LM387A in a 24V process. LM387A should work. Boo-Hoo: I see very few trustworthy sources for LM387. The best is an eBay listing which *appears* to be old yellowed Radio Shack bubble-packs. If honest, these are good parts; but I know (tee-hee) it is possible to replace the chip and re-glue the bubble to defy bare-eye inspection.
But what is "mono"? Same in left and right, or one side only?
Why do you think it is not a switch, solder joint, connector, or etc etc etc?
EDIT: LM387 is an LM381 in a 8-pin package.

Many thanks for the recommendation, mono as in.. left ch is working, hit mono button and both the left and right Amp stages fire into life. I will get the Scope on it to this morning and test the pre amp stage outputs to the mono / Stereo Switch.
All DIN input stages work fine in stereo, so it’s definitely the pre amp stage. I have re flows the joints. So the IC and scope is my next stop, before a re-cap once it’s working.. Cheers.

One approach is to make an adaptor to the standard dual opamp pinout, which increases the possibilities a lot.
