I've also noticed that partial bass is emphasized by a box with ducting in the back, which has to do with the placement of the box and the room.

Hello. Nandappe. Nothing fancy I know. Amp Is TPA 3112D2, direct from streaming Qobuz to Android headphone P2 output or Toshiba DVD, Toslink cable output to DAC. I notice bass is enhanced on pop/country tracks with electric bass Others vocals, chamber or acoustic instruments tonal balance Is perfect. Dianna Kral, Ksenja Sidorova, Jacyntha, Jazz at Pawn Shop. It can be difficult because the amount of bass can be too much or too little depending on the sound source.
Using an equalizer or tone control might be a good idea.
If the bass is not tight, it can be made tighter or less voluminous by reducing the duct area, so please try various methods.

FWIW, I suspect it's the material. A lot of pop / [popular forms of] country music have some significant EQ built into the mix, either for artistic purposes, or more usually to make it sound better on car / portable / bedside radios, computer / TV / smart speakers, cheap ear-buds & the like. Put them on something better, & they often sound imbalanced. This is very common -early Beatles vinyl mixes for instance were essentially balanced to sound decent on teenagers' Dansettes & sounded terrible if you put it on something that didn't have those limitations.
