interesting play ;
that reminds me of my old - never tried - puzzle ;
not wanting to pee in your pool-maybe you'll find something interesting :

Do you know how it does for noise? I see single BJT input MC stage. What is its type and how high is R6?
Edit: Never mind, I saw it has the list next to it in another pic. 2SD786 and 22R. Something under 10 Ohm rbb' in its place for a sub then.
I just know that text was ( at least I didn't understood iota of it back then ) pretty interesting , even if it wasn't complete in xerox I had .
I would like to find that article , complete ......

That will be 1.2nVrtHz with the 2SD786 & 22R even if he does not say if you will find the article. Not the best figure for low MC. 2SC2547 can do also BTW. That ROHM is very seldom and expensive now. If no White Stripes, substitute with the Black Keys in other words.😀
I had no intention to steal Naimly thread ; so - just to say that that Apex MC stage wasn't my point of interest

Hi Salas
Interesting thread.
Thanks for posting.
NAIM was some of the first 'decent gear' I heard...
...maybe very early '80s I think.
The second DIY phono I made ... years ago now ...
... had Tants ... then OS-cons ... then Polys.
There was something nice about the Tants ...
... a bit 'NAIM' like.
PSU & other bits all stayed the same on this phono-pre ...
... the 'cap-rollin', like many things at Space-Egg ...
... happen over a 'geological time scale' ...
Mmmm...
Cheers
Si.

Salas did you see the TGM8 thread with Bigun's take on the PA3..??
He makes a VBE to bias the input stage, this allows him to adjust (absolute and thermally) the input offset and thus get rid of the input capacitor.

I know that i would require a dual supply, but I believe the circuit would run well on that too
