NAD L 40 Reciever issue

I have an issue with My NAD L40 CD Reciever. It will not play from the tuner. The LCD display shows the station I'm on but I get no sound from the speakers. Just recently I had a warning message on the display saying "protect". So I replaced the speaker wire with new. Note that the CD player won't go as well- as it has a loose drive belt- to load the CD- so I can't test speaker sound from this part of the amp. Consequently I need to track down a new drive belt. Where do I get one of these from? I know I could plug an Auxiallary device into this unit. But I have nothing that has this old style input plug. Any ideas on where I should first start?

The display showing 'Protect' could be a sign of a more serious problem. As you your test options seem limited I would suggest this as a first step. If you connect the speakers up and turn up the volume to full (even though there is nothing playing) you should hear some faint hiss and hum from the speaker if you put your ear up close. If you hear nothing then it sounds as though the amplifier has gone into 'protect' mode and is not connecting the speakers. Typically this would point to a failed amplifier output stage... now I don't know what the NAD uses without seeing a circuit diagram. It could be discrete (separate parts) or it could use an integrated circuit (IC chip).

Belts are tricky. Best to measure the old one and knock around 5% off the diameter you measure and then look for generic replacements at local component suppliers.
