One assumes you are referring to the 8 pin data connector on the back above the battery compartment?
If so, try asking over at the JP1 yahoogroup - someone there may have an idea.
I suspect the HTR-2 uses the same technology as other UEI based remotes, and I'm fairly confident that the connector is just a modification of the JP1 connector.
If you trace the PCB tracks and compare with another JP1-able remote, I'm sure you could see fairly quickly how to implement the data cable.
