I'm overall happy with my NAD cd player but there is quite a bit of disc spinning noise, is this normal? Is there a remedy? It does this with all discs. I measured it at about 40db right at 4 kHz. It's a ticking noise.
It sounds more like the optical pickup you are hearing rather than the disc/motor itself. The focus and tracking coils can be quite audible on some players. Scratches and defects on the disc can make the problem worse as the servo works harder to correct. You can also get a "white noise" or hiss from some pickups which can also depend on the servo settings. Worth making sure the disc runs "true" at the outer edge by looking edge on and slowly turning disc. There should be no up/down movement on the disc.
