I'm here very much alive, waiting and watching....
I was happy to read that it is working now and sounds great.
If I am not mistaken, in another GB, someone contacted Antek and they gave them a good price on trafo's if they mentioned the GB. Anyone think we could do that here? I think the price was $37 .00 USD down from $44.00 USD.

Sounds like a good idea.billyk said:If I am not mistaken, in another GB, someone contacted Antek and they gave them a good price on trafo's if they mentioned the GB. Anyone think we could do that here? I think the price was $37 .00 USD down from $44.00 USD.
Let's coordinate here so we don't have a zillion people individually contacting Antek about this.

Well, I would be willing to do that only in the US of course. I like Antek and their prices. Is that group buy over or still going? You could just as easily get in on that group buy if it is still around or we could put something together where I get a deal from Antek and then ship from my house. Only thing is that I dont want to ask Peter to take on that responsibility as well. The kitting he is doing is a huge huge amount of work and I dont envy him one bit. So I think we would be looking at another flat rate box but it still might end up a good deal.
OOOOh, we could do an Antek plus ApexJr kit that is a separate deal than this group buy. So we could offer Antek toroids, thermistors and 33pf 500V mica caps for inrush, RCAs and speaker jacks, Filtered IEC connector, a switch, and some amp feet as well as some nice hook up wire.

If we get ten hands raised I will start a new GB thread for this and maybe we will attract even more people. My mailman is a supreme jerk so this might be some well deserved retribution 🙂 🙂 🙂
edit: and maybe a good potentiometer and selector switch

Well, sounds like Peter likes the idea. We will talk about it to. I think a separate GB is best for this deal.
Peter we must have been typing at the same time!

Sorry if I did not make it clearer. Antek said that the would give the price to anyone ordering that specific trafo from them if they mentioned the GB. Don't recall exactly which one but it was 18v 400VA.
Great VA rating but not the voltage you want for this project. I have that toroid here at home by the way and it is a great chip amp toroid. Very powerful supply and bass has good punch on your regular chipamp circuit. However this project requires a 24V toroid.
I ended up with a 600VA 24V toroid. Antek only sells 2 24V toroids. Weird if you ask me, but 600VA will do the trick for anything needing 24V that you EVER wire up. Probably anyway 🙂 You could run several different Class A projects from a toroid like that or you could run a nice surround system of MyRefs.

Judging from the low number of responses so far I am thinking Peranders is right You guys may be in luck! We will soon see.
But as far as I can tell, as yet noone has given the signal to send in money via paypal. Did I miss it? Do you want the money to be sent now?
Thanks,
Blair

No Blair I was just recognizing the low amount of traffic on the thread up until now and you have nothing to worry about. Give Peter and I a few days and we will then start accepting PayPal.

Will there be a problem if I use a 25V transformer. Antek sells a a wide range of transformers with that voltage.
pete
If somebody needs/wants in I ordered 4 mono kits, I really only need 2 (I still have a set from Twisted that has not been built) I don't need to be greedy 🙂
My bet is 25V would be fine. I am talking to Antek and he is considering offering a discount based on dollars spent rather than the number of toroids bought so that we can buy different toroids.
I think you should ask about 25V over on the build thread. It might be more helpful and I bet the question was already asked.

I started a new thread in Chipamps forum for discussing technical issues, rather than cluttering this thread with these types of questions.
The new thread is "The new "My Ref" Rev C thread". I have already started a discussion about selecting the appropriate transformer for this project. So far, very little response and no consensus.
I am sure there are lots of these issues that will come up as all 50 or so of us start deciding how to build this amp.
Peace,
Tom E

I would REALLY like to get a pair of kits if you are willing to give up your 'extras'.
Thank you very much!
I don't know if this will'put me on the list' or not; I'll drop an email to Peter on this.
Thanks again and best wishes for the holidays and 2009 to everybody here.
Cheers

udailey, hint to get more interested:bhm said:Judging from the low number of responses so far......
Set up a wikipage as the rest of us do. This is a very good tool in order to keep the info up to date in a easy way.
If you post rather often write down the link to your group buy in your sig.

Steve Dunlop has some transformers he may be interested in selling.
