My Take on X-BOSOZ

What kind of ps is the relay-pic attenuator going to need, if I was to put one in my X-BOSOZ?

The attenuator has an integrated PS on the controller PCB, so you don't need anything else but a trafo, you just need 6-12VAC which you could get from a small trafo(500ma or so should be fine) or you could take AC from one of the 12V secondaries of the smaller aval trafo if you use that (a terminal distribution block will make this easier).

Cheers!

I though I would save height in the case by going with the Avels but I sat the PE trafo next to my finished PSU this morning and they are the same height. I'm sure the Avels are lighter but I think I'll stick with the PE trafo. I can probably use the low voltage winding to run the attenuator circuit.

No one answered before so i will ask again?

What is everyone using to control the volume right now? How are you using the BOSOZ without having an attenuator of some sort?

Thanks, Terry

Terry, I am using this

It seems like the quality is ok. I am unsure of how long it will last. I only plan on using it untill I can my hands on the attenuator Russ is wirking on. My original plan was to use a DACT, but I think what Russ has going is much better.

So are you and Russ the only two folks who have working units?

Russ,

How long before you will be offering these boards? I'm waiting to plan my case until I know just what I'm installing. Can't test any of it until then.

Blessings, Terry

My amp is working in the sense that I have it spread all out on a piece of lexan in my living room🙂 I currently only have one input. So yes it is working, but no case or any of that stuff. I would say that it is half way done. It sounds really good. the way it is.

I plan on ordering the PCBs tomorrow. They should be here in around 2-3 weeks.

Steen Has a working amp too BTW 🙂

Cheers!
Russ

Ok, that's good news.

So, what is Steen using for attenuation?:boggled:

I've got another question. Since I'm only using one side of each coil of my transformer, is there any harm sharing the center tap between the two PSU's and using one lead for one board and the other lead for the other?

Ohhh sorry Terry, I missed my name in there. Dont worry I am ready to shoot😉 I am using an Elma attenuator, (thats just an Elma with 4 deck's with presoldered SMD deck's) Thats pretty easy when you live in Denmark😀 I am at this point thinking about if I have a pic of it on my PC. If I do I will post it asap, the attenuation curve of these boards is pretty nice. They have a finely tuned set at the first half of the circle-.... after that the volume increase pretty fast.
The finetuning is in the first half, where it is needed, the rough part comes in later😀 The Elma presoldered SMD boards are sold by a small Danish shop. They are designed by our Lars Clausen!!
Thats the guy behind the Zapsolute amplifier! He is also responsible for a famous class D amp right now 😀 Let me know if I can help you🙂

Steen🙂 (Looking for a pic🙂 )

Here is another one. My friend Magura (crazy soul) wanted to have a real listen to a Twisted preamp with some serious cans as supply bypass. That guy is just nuts😀 😀

Steen🙂
BTW Terry, could you please put some designations on your funky drawing?? I dont quite understand your setup, but initially it spells trouble to me!
