Need a replacement power transformer for my C-85 pre-amp. Would prefer just buying the transformer vs buying a whole pre-amp to pull parts from. Anyone have leads for a transformer only? EBay didn't have one.
Yup, looks toasted.
I have never seen one go open. What happened? I was warranty for Yamaha, and I have one of these.

Not sure of anything specific happening. It just stopped working one day. Voltage going to the primary was good, no output from the secondaries, found primary open. Is there a thermal fuse under there or is it just cooked? Nice pre-amp. I had to replace a resistor in the M-65 amplifier due to capacitor glue corrosion. After cleaning all of the corrosion up I was lucky it was just the one resistor that had a leg eaten off. The amp works great after the repair.

Yes, there is a thermal fuse embedded in the windings. It is mandated by UL and also CSA. Interestingly the CSA temperature rating is about 10 °C lower than the UL rating. Had had many transformer failures up here once they made that decision. So we should have seen many more failed transformers had that been an issue. We did in other products, so did SAE.
