My new speaker stands which I built for about 20€

Hi!

This is my first "real" DIY project I'm going to post here on the forum.

Finished some months ago, with my father, building a pair of speaker stands.

Had a pair of old, 40 cm tall ones, that just weren't up for the task for my Tannoy's. I used some parts of the old ones and rebuilt everything with some PVC pipes.

The result was quite surprising. These 20€ stands actually improved the sound especially the bass (much more controlled).

Quite surprised 😀

Here's a video, and some photos:

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Marvellous work! 😀

We've all seen these sort of speaker stands: https://www.richersounds.com/product/speaker-stands/custom-design/rs300/cust-design-rs300

They work particularly well with little bass reflex speakers. Just getting a speaker off the floor and away from the wall can help bass-heavy designs.

They do have an issue that if you bump into them, the speaker falls on the floor. Whether you blutac the speaker to the stand or use spikes is less important IMO.

I used to use these sort of things with little MS10i speakers. These days I design my own for less bassiness, so they just sit on the shelf near a wall.

Indeed they are quite similar to those. I actually saw many DIY ones designed like this, but with wood bases.

Yes, the stability can be a problem. It took forever to trim the PVC pipes to make them good. But I think it's not a problem anymore.
