Just bought a new scope off ebay , Tektronix D83. Must be a bargain at £32 🙂
Can't confirm it's all functional yet as I have no manual , but the tube is not burnt , cosmetically it's excellent , doesn't seem to have had much use. Plenty of intensity , focuses well , graticule illumination works , all the controls I can try without a manual work fine. Has some cool features & timebase delay ! Lab grade build quality and plug in's , I like
Couple of things , I NEED A MANUAL !! Can anyone help with an original or give me a link for a download as I can't find one that works !
Also , as is typical , no probes !! There seem to be some that appear ok from HK on ebay , heads up on these or recommendations for some good ones please ?
Anyway , looking forward to using this as my previous scope was a trusty Heathkit 😱 Did most of what I needed as I mainly mess with audio but single beam , limited sensitivity and timebase were starting to pi55 me off !! I'll keep it though , sorta like the valves and it's never let me down 🙂

While baring the Tektronix name, they are actually made by Telequipment. Tektronix bought Telequipment in the 70's in an attempt to get into the service scope market. You can find the manuals here:

As for the probes, I have both used Tektronix and new HK ones. Most of my HK ones work perfectly for a year or so, then the plug starts to get a bit loose and affects the contact from time to time. I will take a used Tektronix probe over the HK one any day.

Many thanks for that slam , just what I was looking for 🙂 I'll try and search out some genuine probes , prolly won't be easy though !
Also , my scope is a Telequipment , I must have had a blonde moment when I called it a Tektronix , although I acknowledge what you say about Tektronix buying Telequipment.

Just bought another D83 off ebay because it had all the original manuals with it !! It's in even better condition than the one I bought above and was cheaper which with the manuals makes it a steal !!
It's a very nice scope to use , especially considering how old it is !!

Slam, I completely agree. I have some old and tired TEK probes that work a treat and you can still get the accessories. I also have a couple of the Chinese P6100 probes. Sphere sells these for silly money. They are fine really but do only last a year or less, guess they can be considered consumable.
If you keep an eye on Ebay you can get some good TEK ones. Either that or the German Ebay has some nice probes, although I have never tried these.
Still for the ten quid I paid for two P6100 probes I consider them good value and dont mind abusing them day to day ie one clip for one is melted because I forgot to disconect it whilst soldering, oh well, who cares😉
Cheers Matt.
