I have decided to go ahead and and start making my pj and are going to have a go at making it in an old pc case has anyone got any veiws or concerns about this?.
the size of the case is very close to the pico design
so i dont think i will have any problems fitting it all in i'll start making it in the next couple of days and post some pics as soon as ill do some work in progress shots and post them all on this thread
it maybee sometime untill get my lcd but i'm going to use a 7" screen not a ps1 as i first thought but during this time i will be able sort out any issues i have with over heating inside i'm going to put a digital thermometer on the outside with a probe on the inside this is the story so far:
step 1 was to remove all internal trays motherboard and cards etc. that was the easy bit
ive completed the wiring for MH lamp and ballast ignitor etc turned it on and it works thats step 2 out of the way
pic of the ballast and lighting gear installed:
next the lamp and reflector:
and the whole thing lit up:
Thats the story so far i will post any more advancments on this thread
please comment on this one guy's as i only think i know what i'm doing
will this pcx lens be allright to use in front of my light source before my fresnel it 165mm diameter with a focal length of 240mm and if so, do i have to mount it inside a box or can i just suspend it above the light

another quick update on whats happening with my project
i have now cut my facia panel which is for the front of the projector but the back of the pc case :
and one looking down the lens with the light on theres not much else in there yet:
next job i think is to make the shelf inside to hold the lcd/fresnel/glass etc.
and install a mirror
i'm going to make the shelf out of mdf
A. because its not a good conductor of heat and:
B. iv'e got some lying around

Hello fellow Englishmen, 😀
Can any of you guys perhaps read my thread and give me some ideas/help to make my pj. Such as where you are buying your components and what components you bought - mirrors, fans, lens etc.
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=52759
Also where did you get your ballast from, and when wiring the pj up, do you need terminal blocks? ....i dont know much about wiring and electronics 😱
I will be keeping a keen eye on this thread.
Cheers, Merley.

I got my lens from an opaque projector it seems to be identical to one they are selling a diy projector co. ancorp is familiar with this lens and hello to you if your watching this thread.
only i paid £10 plus postage for it my lighting unit i bought from a car boot sale for £15 but then had to replace the buld which cost £25 I was quite lucky with that cos although it was a hps lighting system the ballast would light either MH/HPS so my light was pre wired and its all wired int a terminal block
to try it out quickly i bought a standard 3mm mirror cut size at the grand total of £1.10
This is a pic of the light as i bought it from the car boot:

where did you get your LCD (liliput) from was it in this country?
hi guy's i'm at abit of standstill with project i can't seem to find a 7" liliput here in the uk without buying online and paying huge p&p and import tax should i hold on for one or go for the ps1 screen?
What i meen is will i be dissapointed with the ps1 i'm using the 135mm triplet my room is pitch black all the time and i can only have with this lens and room size 70"-80" screen

i have done a little more to my project i have wired in my fans connected my switches and fused the whole system like so :
i have one cable going into my pj which feeds power through a fuse to my lighting and is on its own switch then i have another switch which is also fused and powers all three of my 120mm fans which are all powered by individual psu's and the third switch and fuse will be linked to the lcd so i have comlete control over all the units:
the back panel of the pj
the basics all wired up:
the individual psu's wired up together which are powered by a single switch and fused:
and a pic of the psu's back in there cases for the time being i will at some point mount them on a board in the pj when i decide exactly where to put them:
more too follow at a later date
