Other than getting a brain that is (seems I'm stuck with this old dull one). I just got an old 466 tek scope off ebay... which sort'a works... but does not display a normal sweep... I can find a beam using the beam finder, and I can get an xy display, and I can even get a single sweep .... but I can't seem to get the trigger to 'shoot'...
Its been some years since I last used a scope, probably since this scope was in its prime, but I don't think it should be that difficult to get a sweep (hey... I was so desperate that I even followed the directions in the 'instruction manual').
I hope that I'm just stupid, and some one will tell me to just push the.... button... but on the other hand, if the scope has a serious problem I need to find out now while I can still return it...
so any help will be greatly appreciated
thanks
steve

If there's a switch that allows selection of trigger source, set it to "auto" or "line" and see what happens.
This scope has three trigger modes: auto, norm, and single sweep... single sweep works... it also has a trigger source selector which includes: norm, ch1, ch2, line, ext, ext/10... (scope will single sweep when trigger source is set to line, norm, or to channel with signal). There is also a trigger display button, which doesn't sweep either, but does show amplitude change when displayed with the beam finder...
I think I've tried every conceivable combination of trigger options... but I could be wrong....
thanks again,
steve

How about auto and line? Do you get a sweep then?
Also, with those set, you might want to play with the holdoff and level adjustments.
