My Last Smps Project

Hello SMPS builders

This is my last switchmode power supply. I build it with 2 inches toroidal transformer, half bridge topology, 4 IGBT output, optozener regulated (+43/-43VDC), if regulated less it work in +66/-66VDC. SG3525 PWM controller transformer direct drive, buffer less, now, to wait a new-next power amplifier.

I´m designing the power amp. Maybe I will make a up grade in hte SMPS. More IGBTs or a new version in full bridge.

Ok!!
About the SMPS the IGBTs employed are only 100Watts by unit.
(4 x 100 Watts). But, with 4 units. of the IRFP264 mosfets (290Watts/unit.) the SMPS will work powerfull.

Your layout does not show any safety spacing (5mm recommended) between mains live side and output side.

As an ex SMPS designer I was tempted to say same but didnt but now I will. Needs at least 8 mm creepage and clearance between input and output (including across opto / isolation barrier and any swtiching XFR) and 4mm or more betwen L and N / L and E. Of course if its for private use you can do as you wish but if you are 'advertising' the design then I would strongly suggest putting a warning on it to protect yourself. regards A Streeter

About some "safety clearance" I don´t have any problem, the SMPS work very well, no heat, no noise, I like it.

Yes, it´s the 3524 controller card, but, I have other PWM cards with SG3525 and TL494.

I also want to comment on the creepage distances, it is not about if it works or not, it is if it is safe or not... How did you make the transformer, what kind of insulation did you use?

Well, for the primary coil of the toroidal transformer I use cotton tape.
