Hi at all,
this Aleph30clone is my first DIY-project! So, like first think I would to tanks all the people on diyaudio forum because on their technical exchange I learned all about my work. Tanks especially to Mr Pass who allowed me to live the “Frankenstein experience” when I gave life for my first time my Aleph and it sang for me!
The PCBs are from BrianGT and the parts are exactly from his list. The toroidal is 650VA 2x22Volt, the R in the CCRC arrangement is a parallel of 5x3 Ohm 3 Watt (0,6R total) per rail. A 3,3 µF MKT is used like capacitor filter and under load the PSU deliver +/- 24,7 Volt. Total bias is 2,1A for each channel and the DC offset is -15 and -20 mV.
The IRFP240 (not from digikey) are in TO-220 case and mounted with mica insulator and thermal silicon paste on the heatsink (300x160x40 mm). After 3 hours while Tamb is 20°C the Tcase is 58°C, a little high to touch for more than 3 seconds the heatsinks!
After mounted the front panel (aluminium 1 cm thin), the Tcase decries to 55 °C (?!), Tamb still 20°C. So (55-20)°C/(24,7Vx2)x2,1A -> 35°C/104Watt -> Rth=0,33 C/W about. Is it correct?
Measuring the T on the metal side of the mosfets it rises to 80°C in the worse case,
I must be in hurry? I won’t to use a fun…
No noise in the speaker, very little hum from the toroidal and no bump when turn the switch on or off.
The sound is really 3D with great separation, the instruments are present and detailed.
Tanks again!
Peppe

Hi Jacco,
the case is from http://www.hifi2000.it/ and I bought the 1NPD04300 B on www.audiokit.it.

Peppe,
That is, quite simply, beautiful work. I like the cases offered from hifi2000, too.

Steve

Tanks Steve

the case have a beautiful 10mm thin panel, but I'm not able to work on it to put a switch. The led (deep red) is in the switch on the rear.

Hi Peppe,
why not? It is because of the 10 mm depth?
If so you can use a trick, drill a blind hole from the back with a large diameter and you can fit a switch in such a monster panel.
Cheers
Andrea
Yes Andrea,
it's not easy to work on 10 mm depth panel for me. Yours it's a very good idea, my switch need 19 mm diameter hole so I need a drill tip of 23-25 mm about. Such tip is very expensive.
Another way (more expensive) could be to order to HiFi2000 a drilled front panel with personal serigraphy.
I will try to email Hifi2000 or follow your trick.

Mr. Pass itself!!?!!
In sincerity I didn't know who this man was until february 2006.
Now I perfectly know: he's a LEGEND!
Just such this simple word will be me happy for all my life long!

Hi Jacco,
in february a friend of mine come in my home with a Threshold T50 and said: "Play this!". I did and it was love!
I started finding some information on Threshold itself and who was at the base of that work and quickly arrived at this forum.... reading, improving my english (not still enough) and asking a little because I am a bit shy...
Now I am more secure and very proud of my work but still think that the WEB it's big, the people who write on this forum are great but without THAT MAN what we are doing now?!

Very nice looking amplifier
Just one question, who designed it ?

Confirm the Schemtic
I also interested in building a A30.
Would you please post the schemtic of A30, so that I can confirm the one in my hand !
Thanks !
