My first projector... inside a dukane 670

Alrighty, after months of reading I'm deciding to construct my first projector. After I get my panel working on top of the dukane 670 (with a 575w Metal halide bulb) I want to construct a box, get new fresnels, and most likely add a better reflector and a condenser lens.

I think I broke my panel which I got for free from my folks, who had a 15” Kogi (gVision) LCD with a burnt out backlight. I was messing around while extending the FFC cable while the power was on, and no more response from the LCD. I ordered another broken one off of eBay; hopefully I can get it working with the parts from that. If anyone has any suggestions on what I can do to fix it I’m all ears.

My main reason for the post was that my OHP seems very inefficient; I know my bulb is rated at 49,000 lumens and the projector is about 6,000 (it currently seems extremely bright). When I put it all into a box do you think I should use a spherical reflector (note the crappy half dollar sized reflector currently in there) as well as a condenser lens? What should I be looking for in a condenser lens? How much more light do you think I’d get to the panel? Thanks in advance 🙂

Sphearical Dichroic reflector

I've come to the conclusion that a spherical reflector would be the best in my set up. But the bulb already has a short lifespan at 1000 hours and I don't want to diminish that. I've looked all over and can't find a Spherical reflector with a dichroic coating on it. Does anyone have any sources, preferably in the U.S?

Yes, it does, but the current reflector is fairly small. It looks to be the perfect size if I'm not using a condenser (if it were any larger the rays would miss the Fresnel) But I think I’m going to use a condenser when I put it in it’s box in attempts to get more light to the LCD.

purchasing 575w MH hmi

If it's the same 575w HMI bulb you can get the GE osram ones on ebay for about 80 dollars. However there was a group buy for some of them in china, I think they got the bulbs for less than $20 each after shipping. They don't last the full 1000 hours but you might want to try and contact 18Wheeler, I bought a couple off of him just a month ago, total came out to about 22 dollars a bulb including shipping. I'm sure shipping would be more to AU though.

Good luck
