Cheers,
Was aware of the Pyle, but it doesn't seem to be available in the UK. Shame, as it does look great though.

Thanks Miguel. I notice he is only looking to get down to 90Hz though! I hope that I am not far off that with my present baffles and am looking to extend from say 100Hz downwards.
...If I were having some open baffles, I'd want to reach at least 50hz, fairly flat. I'd hate to cross in a ported subwoofer much higher than 50hz. But I guess that would need eqing. Is this what you plan to do Nuuk?
btw, I've seen your site before, think maybe I even have googled it, its good 😉

Hi Simon,
Thanks for your kind comments on Decibel Dugeon.
As regards my di-pole woofers, I intended to try starting without EQ like Miguel and then add it in later if needed.
This is becoming almost a daily ritual but here is another woofer suggestion which is available in the UK as well as the USA.
FS 22Hz, Qts .46, Xmax 7mm. (Priced at £76 in the UK) Comments welcome. 😉

I think anything above £50 is too much for me ATM. Did you get any joy from CPC regarding the cheap 15 incher? I might contact them as well. If they have had 2 enquiries maybe they will act... 🙂
Hi There Nuuk
I found the best prices at BK Electronics BUT if you look at the Maplin prices for 5 units, and remember that there is no carriage charge, it is almost as cheap to buy 5, as 4 from BK!
The price from Maplins is less the vat and the price at BK is plus Vat so 5 delta 15's from Maplin are 5 x £42.49ea = £212.45
5 Delta 15 from BK are 5 x £39.80 = £199.00 + £12.00 Carriage = £211.00

Well Rich, while I was reading your post who should ring up but a very nice man from CPC who has restored my faith in that company!
As you requested sir:
The driver is made by Monacor.
FS 30HZ (goes up to 1500Hz)
Qes 1.78
Qms 4.55
Qts 1.2
Re 3.8 ohms
Air gap 6mm (but no mention of Xmax!)
Voice coil 50mm
Magnet diameter 140mm
Magnet weight 40 oz
SPL 94db
For me, this looks like the best bet yet!
Dan - thanks for the tip. I have noticed the large discount Maplin give for buying five units. Pity CPC don't do the same!

Which driver from Monacor are you talking about?
I have Monacor catalog.
Bartek

Woohoo. Not quite the best yet, but certainly pretty good, better than the Eminence, and cheap as chips 😀
The Qts is very high. I expected it to be high looking at the tiny magnet, but not that high! Not a problem though, as using EQ the Q can be lowered easily, and if done a certain way you can lower the distortion as well.
I wonder if they got Xmax and air gap mixed up? If they did, then that's a darned good Xmax figure 🙂
I think Monacor are a reasonable budget brand, should be fine.
So, did you tell the nice man how great it would be and how much extra business they would get if they published T/S parameters in the catalogue? Did the guy understand what he was talking about?
I'll take a couple if you will 🙂

CPC do do a discount for 5+ units.

Sorry, I forgot to.

Oh yes. 😱

I shall be going for two per side!

Yes but nothing like as good as Maplin where it is cheaper to buy five than four! If you buy five from CPC, the fifth one works out at about a thord of the price but with Maplin, the fith one is completely free! 😱
Which driver from Monacor are you talking about?
SP3826 but I couldn't find it on their site!

And now I am off to bed to dream about di-pole bass!

How did the dreams go? 😉
I was listening to my system most of last night. I've only recently set up the sub and moved the room around to get the sound better. It sounds great and there's actually nothing about the sub I would like to change, but being the experimenter I am, I will have a play with an OB sub 🙂
How big is your room? Mine is 17ft x 13ft. I think 2 dual-15 subs may be too much for me... Have you got a sub at present?

There is no such driver in Monacor catalog.
Neither in 2002 nor 2003 one.
Bartek
How did the dreams go?
One of them came true about 11.20 this morning! 😉
How big is your room?
About 13 ft by 13 ft but with a 4 ft opening through to the next room.
Have you got a sub at present?
No.
I think 2 dual-15 subs may be too much for me...
Boxed subs yes but I think that one of the advantages of di-pole subs is that they cause less 'problems' as regards interacting with the room.
People have suggested that my 12 inch 201's are too big for my room but that simply isn't the case. Of course, we would all like smaller, less obtrusive speakers but as regards sound quality. I am very happy with these big drivers (and not afraid to add a few more!) 😉

Are they any good on open baffle?
Bartek
Are they any good on open baffle?
Yes,Bartek, very good. I have not measured them yet but can tell that they need some help in the lower bass region. Other than that they sound superb and like many who have tried open-baffles, I would find it hard to go back to the 'closed-in' sound of a box speaker!
I was interested in bass performance of 201 on open baffle.
Does it need a lot of help or just subwoofer for earthshaking atractions.

Well of course, it will depend on the size of the baffle. Mine are four feet by two feet (1220 mm by 610mm) and for a lot of music they are fine as they are. If I never had an extra woofer it wouldn't be the end of the world!
But on rock/techno music and large orchestral works, some extra bass will (or should) balance out the bottom end and give more scale.

Its about time Adire Audio got a UK distributer. Just business from diyaudio members would make it worthwhile IMO. I have never seen *anything* like the Shiva and Tempest in the UK... If someone knows of these sorts of products here in the UK, please let us in on the secret!!
Thanks!

I haven't read all of the posts here, but I did notice that people were having trouble finding the Pyle PPA 15 drivers I have. Well, I just did a search for "pyle ppa 15" on Google, and this was the first one it pulled up..... and a few more.

"Joe Dirt" says Pyle is flea market quality. That is true about their car audio equipment, but these pro-audio drivers that I'm using are pretty damn good, at least in this dipole configuration.
Also, as an update......
I've changed all of my home audio/video equipment and loudspeakers over the last few months, but the dipole subs are still in place and are not going anywhere. And they sound better than ever after being fully broken in.

Thanks Chops. I'm still on a woofer hunt so will email those suppliers and see if they ship to the UK and if so what it will cost.
