Alright, ive been lurking here for a bit, but I have finally composed a rough sketch of what I am attemting to build. I dont have distances worked out, but I already have a balast/bulb/cap/mogul-base, and I am planning on picking up the 12x12 fresnel from allan staples, as with the triplet lense. I work at staples (odd with the names...) and I can pick up a 15" LCD pretty cheap. Heres my base design... your thoughts? Opinions? Flames?! Any input is appreciated. I searched for good info on the fresnels but I couldnt find much besides allan's is splitable and not bad.
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
Put a condencer lens close to the lamp between the lamp and fresnell #1, and use a spherical reflector behind the lamp (like a soup ladle). Also put some fans to blow and suck air through the LCD / fresnel assembly, the glass will not block much heat, and very much of the heat comes from the TFT LCD when it blocks the light between the two polarizer films.
Yeah, maybe a first surface mirror between the fresnell #2 and triplet (projection) lens. Also the picture/LCD wouldn't need reversing then.

whoah whoah whoah.... from what ive read, using mirrors reduces your light a lot... is this really a good idea?
Yes... from what I've seen, First (or Front) Surface Mirrors have a reflectivity of 94%-97% -- not exactly what I'd call "reduced".
Typically, it's highly polished glass or Pyrex and coated with either aluminum or gold.
Still trying to find an affordable FSM solution for myself (checked Edmund Optical, American Science & Surplus and SurplusShed), but for now it's just a 12" square mirror tile I got from Home Depot.
