My DIY Turntable is finally done! It took two years, but I think it was worth it. It would have never happened without a lot of help and encouragement from Vinly Addict. Thank you Frank. The table has a DIY Motor Controller and is equipped with an SME IV Tonearm and Clearaudio Maestro Cartridge. In the future, I will try a Platter made from a different material, inverted bearing and different cartridge. Here are some pics.

Nice machining. Seems like the motor-pod and arm-pod are made from the same material and both are sitting on the platform the same manner. Don't vibrations travel from the motor to the arm this way? What's the concept behind the idea of completely decoupling the arm from the table? Shouldn't the arm and platter vibrate in unison if any vibration occurs? Again, impressive machining. Hope you are enjoying the sound.

Both the motor and toneam pod are heavily damped with lead shot and silicone fluid. As you can see the turntable is mass loaded and very little vibration is transferred because the plinth is also damped with lead shot and slilcone fluid with tiptoes and the whole rack is on tiptoes on a concrete floor. I should however put an accelerometer on the table just for grins.
Yes, it is very easy on the ears. I have Jazz at the Pawn Shop on Vinyl and there are things present that I swear I have never heard before compared to CD. My next project is to come up with some sort of record cleaning device to clean all my old Vinyl.
Have you tried VHS tape? Your pulley is long enough for that. Make sure when you make the splice, cut it diagonally for smoother rotation.
mm I tried vhs tape on mine, but I had a fair level of "rustling" which i put down to the tape flexing on the slightly crowned motor pulley. I have used reel to reel lead in tape though without any of those issues.
You can buy a length of lead in tape plus splicing kit on ebay for about $20. Enough to do a lifetime.

Very impressive exercise in machinig it looks great, you should sell the rights to Mitchel. I would only have one "constructive criticism/observation and that is, do you think that the centre of gravity is to high?? It would maybe have been perhaps more prudent to make the lower section of the platter a bit larger and to arange the hanging weights to rotate around the base unit. Thus you could get the centre of gravity much closer to the base which greatly increases stabillity and acoustic properties in my judgement. Since I am also fortunate as a model engineer to have a well equiped precision workshop, you have motivated me to seriously consider designing and building my own unit.
Actually this turntable is just my implementation on Vinyl Addict's concept. If anyone sells the concept to Mitchell, it is him. He was very kind to help me along with the table and for that I am very thankful. Frank (Vinyl Addict) is one of the most talented machinists around. For that matter, he is a pretty talented turntable designer also.
Hi
I don't mean to hijack this thread. I just have a question.
Is a granite plater OK for diy tt ?
If not what are the disadvantages?
Thanks

Superb.
Im about to embark on a DIY TT, care to share more details on your bearing and motor choices.
