Re: ahh copyright issues....
Frankly im tired of this anti-piracy bull sh^t. Sorry but i just need to vent. I have never come acoss a dvd that can not be copied. Mabey if they did not charge astronomical prices for a piece of plastic... Anywho, if you guys are sick of holywood trying to make it illigal to own a dvd burner and what not, go to http://www.eff.org. I am not saying that i would support stealing movies, but you guys would be supprised at some of these bills the entertainment industry is trying to pass. Do you know they want to ban all new tvs from being able to work with vcrs? Good god... www.lazlow.com also has some good stuff on the topic.

I wouldn't advise anyone to help in open post though...that's not what we are here for, as some of the tools would be construed "DVD piracy utilities" you might call them "DVD hacking tools".
When you go looking, do so knowing that your searchs WILL show you lot's of results with the words "lawsuit" in the description 😉
I'm not sugesting in any way that this is your intent, just that you gotta play safe. Know what you are getting and where from...and HOW you get it...and just as important WHO you are getting it from...
2 cents from a junky since the net was the net...

Go to eff and donate. Do what ever you can. Send a letter to congress. And remember, for what ever they force upon us, people will hack. Like dvd protection.
I'm a fence sitter...as such I try to see the logic behind both sides of an argument.
On our side we are offended by the "high handed, dictatorial" policies voted for by the entertainment industry, and by the ridiculusly high prices.
"They" on the other hand see every VCR and DVD burner as a potential means to "pirate their art" thusly they raise the cost of CD's and DVD's. And they press for newer and better encryption/anti-copy standards, as well as that stupid "media tax" they pushed for on blank media (imagine thinking that you are owed a "fee" when an indivdual buy's a BLANK CD from someone other than you) if that wasn't so sad it would almost be laughable!
The world is a funny place aint it? (I dont mean funny Ha Ha)

Macrovision, Geforce cards
www.tvtool.com - removes underscan problem with geforce cards, and can disable macrovision.
www.inmatrix.com - have a look at zoomplayer, can switch resolution when playing a file/DVD. Many, many options.
http://www.entechtaiwan.com/ - Powerstrip can detect when a program is run, and change the graphics mode, over/underclocking, gamma correction etc.

Most of the free programs work fine, you just have to know how to use them. Having one program to backup a dvd will not work. You need to use many programs, such as one to rip the files from the dvd, convert all the files togather into one file, convert that file to another format suitable for vcd or svcd, cut or scale that file into 700 mb pieces, then burn the file useing a progam suitable for vcd or svcd buring. Many programs that can convert the raw dvd file, only make it an avi file which cannot be burned to cd. Avi needs to be converted mpeg, which depending on the speed of your computer, can take up to 24 hours. Also, before you rip a dvd, you must play it in a program such as win-dvd first. Other wise it will not be able to rip. If after hearing this you still think you are able, or want to put the time into backing up a dvd to vcd, go to http://www.vcdhelp.com. There are entire guides on dvd ripping. For the amount of time it takes to copy one dvd, you would be better off working overtime at work and buying a second copy of your whole collection.
You may want to check out some pay solutions at the computer store, i have heard of a program called dvdxcopy that will do it all, but have never used it.
Backing movies up for playing on a computer is best done with Divx... better image quality than VCD and usually smaller than SVCD.
However it is very time consuming, takes several hours even on a fast machine and is really not worth the effort most of the time.
What you could do though is use a DVD ripper and demacrovision/deregionalize the DVD file and put it on your hard drive to play it. This takes only a few minutes depending on read speed and is very easy to do. It does take a lot of hard drive space. Then it SHOULD output through the Svideo out.
If I were you I'd just get a standalone DVD Player.. much easier, much better, and no legalities to deal with.

a long time
You guys are right, but if you work on a let's say 1.4 Gig , you should not have any problems letting the software run in the back. but it takes a long time, here it takes usually between 6 and 10 hours depending on quality and duration of the movie. And there is a lot to conquer. first 2 or 3 copies i made had major discrepancies such as a film of 90 minutes had 92 minutes of sound.

I wonder..........
Is there anywhere I can get a PS1/2/any other console that uses cd type media burning program for free? I also would like to get some emulators for them. Really want to know how to backup these games of mine, and then be able to play them on my console or my comp. Any help would be appriciated. BTW...someone ougt to start a thread on electronic freedom...like info about backup copies and other stuff. Guess I will...

First, you have to install a mod chip in to your system and then you can burn your games... Becuse all ps2 disks have bad sectors, the consol picks up on this and plays the disk. If the cd does not have the bad sctors, it will not play the disk. No cd burner can replicate these bad sectors, so you must install a mod chip which will fake the ps2 into thinking the cd-r has bad sectors. You do however need a dvd-burner to back up. Dvd writers only can burn 4.7 gigs, so games over that size cannot be backed up. www.modchip.com sells mod chips... As for backing up games, check on the web, there are tones of step by step guides.
Re: I wonder..........
I thought your intent was to avoid the "macrovision" problem? This is turning quickly into a "how to copy stuff" thread. There are sites devoted to this activity. Whats next? How can I beat the copy protect on my Win XP ? (I just want it for a backup of course) see my point?
