I just got a DVD rom for christmas, and i have video out...so i went WHOO HOO, installed, and it will hardly play...it takes about 5 min to load, and games freeze up anyway....i think it is my mobo-a cheap POS, the K7SEM by ECS...newest firmware and everything. WHOEVER SOLD THIS THING TO ME SHOULD TAKE ONE OF THESE THINGS AND SHOVE IT UP HIS.......Sry, i feel a bit better now. Had to vent that....anyway, if i can get it to work......
BTW...if anyone has had one of these experiences with this mobo, please tell me how you fixed it...(if you did)

I would hate to say this, being the linux guru I am (well, not really but i'd like to think so), but my dvd-rom played all choppy and did not work too well playing movies, but when i put xp on my system, it played them fine... Go figure...

HAHA this is easy you have not turned off / or on ( cant remeber the opposite of what the status is now. ) dma seetings for your drive. right click my computer and go to properties. then to dvd-rom drive then go to properties and see the dma settings. choose the opposite to what it is now.

XP is the only decent thing microbucks has done for the world IMHO and even at that.....how much is for "the world" and how much is corporate controll...........

A warning about XP: XP will force your IDE controllers to run in PIO mode only if it thinks there are problems (i.e. your computer locks up too many times). The only way to restore DMA is to uninstall your IDE controller drivers in device manager and reboot.
The next versions of linux are going to be great. It will take off [more] in the years to come... 😀

what about the other specs of your computer?
I own an ECS board and for the price it is a very stable board. It is not an overclocker, but it really is a bang for the buck....I can't see how a motherboard would be causing the problems you're having either.

I'm using Power DVD on XP pro it seems to work great on my rad8500's Svideo, I dont have anything in the house that accepts Svideo so I have to convert it with an adapter to composite. It's a cheapy Radio Shack cable sold for 3 times it's actual value ~L~ the sales guy looked at me like I had 3 heads when I suggested that maybe they should have it in a molded plug (...no 3ft. gawky cable).

Don't pet the sweaty stuff......it is do able I'm sure. Do some "spookin around on the net" and you WILL find what you need I'm quite sure. I wouldn't advise anyone to help in open post though...that's not what we are here for, as some of the tools would be construed "DVD piracy utilities" you might call them "DVD hacking tools".
When you go looking, do so knowing that your searchs WILL show you lot's of results with the words "lawsuit" in the description 😉
I'm not sugesting in any way that this is your intent, just that you gotta play safe. Know what you are getting and where from...and HOW you get it...and just as important WHO you are getting it from...
