Hi Everybody,

Just bought a Philips CD960 for 29 UKP with an intention to get a CDM mecs to replace the one in my CD80 since I heard they are similar (CDM1 MK2?). Unfortunately, the transport mecs in the CD960 is completely different from the one in CD80. However, the laser in CD960 is still in first class condition even the cdp itself quite old!..

I just swap in the digtal filter SA7220p/b and TDA1541a S1 in the CD960, replaced all elec caps, four OPA627, install Clock and PSU , 14 decoupling cap around TDA1541A S1 and rework on analog sections...

after three days burn in, the CD960 sounds very musical, space, detail, rythym, and very deep bass...One thing I must say is the Mecs in the CD960 is very quiet and it does everything, I am very happy with.

Just borrow the Meridian CD604.26(no mod) from friend for comparition. All I can say is I prefer the Philips CD960 more!!! Even the Meridian costs 3 or 4 times (second hand)!.

the only problem in my CD960 is that the tray can not open and close freely. i must make a handle for it everytime I load a dics. Anyone has any idea will be appreciated.

regards,

Chuong

CDM0
CDM1
CDM3 (see post(s), use search)

same square shape (there is a post on this, search):
CDM2 (plastic green/white)
CDM1/MK2 (alu)
CDM4/31 (plastic black)

CDM4/19 and others
CDM9 / CDM9 pro

Greetings,

Update: there are CDM4/19's were the laser head looks the same as a CDM4/31. These have a square blue smd cap with code 1001 (iirc) on it. And there are some without.

I got one second hand with and one without. The CDM4/19s that pollin sold were without cap (at least the one's i got). I think the one's with cap are older versions of the '19.

Greetings,
