My cd-player died, I need help with faultfinding.

Dmfraser, didn`t see your post until now.

After I got the player working again, I left it powered on over night. The next morning the sound were fine in both channels, and it`s been fine since then.

That is a specialized device. It looks like besides being a low dropout regulator, it generates a signal to hold the microprocessor in reset until the outvoltage has stabilized. I know of no deplacement device. I also know that Sharp semiconductors are not that readily available. Its a good thing you found it was a diferent fault.

One rule of troubleshooting equipment that does not work after you just worked on it is to go over everything with a magnifying glass. Specially if you soldered something on or above the PCBs.
