The design of DIY LCD Projectors have several dimensions. One of them being easy adjustability and fine tuning so that final image has optimum quality. This aspect is of interest to every one. Further the placement of the projector is related with proper utilization of space. We have been emphasizing these commen aspects only.

First off, in your post in this thread, you did not mention fine-tuning: you mentioned your throw distance and the fact that your room "is not cluttered with the projector". Even if you had mentioned fine-tuning, or even if the thread was related to what you posted about (throw, room utilization, et cetera), shardian's point remains that you are spamming. We know these "common aspects" that your projector has because you give us the link to your site in every thread you can, from the DIYaudio forums to the diyprojectorcompany forums.
Don't get me wrong, your projector looks very nice, and many people have probably drawn inspiration from it, but in almost every single thread, all I see is, "you may be benefited by our experience at ..." or "in our design, seen at...". In other words, I've visited your site about four times now, and have seen the link to it 25+ times.
You must realise this: if everyone did what you are doing, (advertising your attorney/DIY projector site in scads of threads), this forum and others would be full to the brim with posts advertising member's personal sites with a page about their projector.
That is not the purpose of a forum: a forum is a place at which knowledge about a subject is condensed into a smaller, easier to peruse form. That knowledge is contributed by posts, not by links (especially not by links to websites with a big advertisement for attorneys at the top)
I hope I do not come across as too rude in my post: I mean the utmost respect to you and everyone else on this forum, but am only expressing my opinion in the hopes that it may make this already wonderful forum into an even better one. 🙂

I have myself stopped posting from my side as certain members of this forum do not want progressive exchange of views.
You totally missed the point ramkishan. If you want to include your link, that is fine. Put it in your signature. There is no problem whatsoever with that. The problem is that you are posting off-topic just to have a reason to tell people to go to your site. We are not trying to run you off. You obviously did a good job on your PJ, and we all appreciate any advice you can give to others. Just please stay on topic and don't blatantly advertise your website
I don't want to be misunderstood in this forum and hence turned my attention to other three forums where I don't face such problems. The experts there appreciate our work and specifically highlighted the same. Based on such interactions, I go on enriching the web page on DIY LCD Projector which is part of my own web site. I don't need any publicity of my web site as already it is top ranking in 30 legal categories. DIY entrepreneurs by any strech of thinking are not going to be my clients. Few hits by them don't result in any earnings to me. So thanks a lot for the nice dialogue which we had. I am always open for rendering any details whenever needed from me but no more postings on my own.
Thanks for taking criticism in stride and actually listening to what we have to say. ( hint: I am being sarcastic.)
On a side note, at least we don't have to see your spam anymore. Oh and on another side note, the people who post here are the same ones who post on diyprojectorcompany, so you might as well protest and not post there too. While you are at it, go burn some flags or something since you don't agree with what we say.

For all those who have tried to reach me in the last month, I apologize. I just haven't checked my mail recently. I did reply back to everyone who wrote to me. If you do have a question or comment you CAN e-mail me or post it here. Sorry for the delay!
lol super I went through 2 dells, one the FFC ripped and the other the FFC moved while in the clip I had for it and shorted it out.
I have a Sammy 730B and its TRUEELLLY AMAZING!
You're one of the first people that inspired me to build a Projector, Just wanted to let you know I'm gamming happy now!

Well, thanks ChristmasGT. It's one of those projects that is very rewarding. You get to tinker with all sorts of neat physics and such. Then, in the end, you get an awesome entertainment unit! It's a win-win situation.
BTW, sorry to hear about your Dells. Sometimes electronic setup can be a crap shoot. FYI (love those acronyms), most Dells are Samsung LCDs in disguise. 🙂 But, Samsung itself is an excellent brand as well.

Say Superdaveumo, are you still using your 18"ers? I might have found one at a nice price, and was wondering about overall user opinions. Do your corners still bug you in terms of focus, or have you gotten used to it? Thanks for your help.

For movies and TV, I don't even notice it. It's very enjoyable. In fact, IMHO, having the screen SLIGHTLY out of focus gives you a better picture because with a razor sharp picture, you get jaggies (a very technical term). With my picture, I don't have the center absolutely razor sharp. I take it very slightly out of focus which at the same times brings the corners more into focus. It's a happy medium. Again, this is my opinion and some people like to have "jaggies".
Video games, I don't notice it except for games with a HUD where the HUD icons/text is in the corners. Games with icons or small numbers in the corners do get blurred. IMHO, still playable by all means, but not perfect.
If you can find this lens cheap, try it. You have almost nothing to lose as you can sell it again if you are not happy. Good luck!
Thanks a lot for the input. I think I might go for it and get one. While a 550 mm 3dlens fresnel was not in my budget, I guess I will have to make it fit 🙂 This is just about the best fresnel for this lens, correct?
Once again, thank you so much for your input.

Yes. Make your calculations first, but I think that is one of the best fresnels to use with that lens.
You're more than welcome for the info. I asked questions just like this before making my projector and people were kind enough to help. I am more than happy to return the favor.

Unfortunately, a sniper outbid me by $1 on a 22" lens I was trying to obtain. On a related note, do you guys think this lens'd work sufficiently with a 17" panel?

it's an American Optical Company 22" FL lens, but it's got a 4 10/16 diameter (I think most of you guys use 5 or 6 inches?). Thanks for your help.

22" lens
I think all the 18" fl opaque projector lenses are about 5" in diameter, and all the 22" fl are about 4 3/8" in diameter.
Several different manufacturers have made them, but they have standard sizes because of their application: Projecting a standard 8.5" by 11" sheet of paper on a screen.
The 22" lenses will be farther from the LCD so their maximum FOV angles don't have to be so extreme as the 18" lenses. But since they have a smaller diameter, I don't think they will do much better with 17" and larger LCDs. But anyone trying to build a high performance projector based on a super-large LCD should be willing to spring for a lens designed for this application.
Opaque projector lenses (either 18" or 22") and 15" LCDs represent a "sweet spot" in DIY projector design. Pretty cheap and very good results. Certainly cheaper and a better image than any of the Lilliput or Hami 800 by 600 pixel projector designs.

I just wanted to give a little update. I have moved to my new home so I had to setup the projector again. Unfortunately, the IR and UV glass filters became tinted. What I mean is the middle of the glass looks like it was burnt! The "burnt" circle is about 3 to 4 inches across and then fades to the normal clarity.
The result of this is white looked brown in the middle of picture! Not good at all. So, at this point I remembered that the new bulbs Alan (prior to being bought by lumen labs) was selling had UV protection built into the bulb! So, because of this, I don't have to worry about damage to the LCD due to UV rays. Now, IR rays are still a problem. Just have to keep that thing cool.
So, a loooooong story shorter, I removed the IR and UV glass panes from the projector so now it's just the bulb directly to the back fresnel. I haven't found the heat to be a problem at all. In fact, I think it even breathes a little easier. What I did notice is my picture was noticably brighter! YAY! I had it running for a couple hours the other night (playing SNES on it) and I saw no problems with the picture.
Unfortunately I don't have a pictures to compare or even show what I did, but subjectively, I can say that it is brighter, clearer, and the blacks are blacker. I can't say for sure if the blacks being blacker have anything to do with removing the IR/UV filter, but it looks better!

A lot of people have tried to build 17" LCD-based projectors using cheap parts (like opaque projector lenses) that really work much better for 15" and smaller LCDs. If you are set on using a 17" LCD, then I would recommend you go right to www.lumenlab.com and look at their stuff. (Good stuff, good prices, good service.) You can see the difference between the 15" "sweet-spot" ($65 lens kit) and the 17"-19" version ($250 lens kit).
I think you can either build a 15 or 15.8" wide-screen format LCD-based projector with their standard lens kit (or an 18" or 22" fl opaque projector lens from eBay & fresnels from lumenlab or 3dlens.com). Or you can go the larger format option and buy the lumenlabs plans and parts. Either one of those will be easy. Trying to find surplus, salvage, or cheap parts from here and there that will be useful in a 17" projector will be very difficult.
You do have to keep in mind that you can buy a new 32" LCD HDTV like a Vizio L32 for $700. Some of the new DLP-based rear-screen projection TVs are under $1000, and some front projectors are under $1200 now. So be careful that you don't spend more than an available standard product with a warranty and better performance.
