Muting arrangements for ESP kits: P05B and P09B

I wrote to Rod at ESP, but I think he's busy (or tired of noob questions 🙂), so I hope one of you can help:

I have ESP kits P05B and P09B and I'm trying to understand how to use the P05Bs 'aux' output (circa 20volts) to short the crossover signal outs when power is disconnected (to avoid noise through speakers).

The instructions mention relays, but when I looked at RS I found hundreds, some very expensive, and I suspect that if I order what seems appropriate it will turn out to be completely wrong..

[In case anyone gets the wrong idea, I confirm that Rod's instructions for the assembly of the kits themselves are both detailed and easy to follow. Clearly, the choice of relays and how to connect them is a matter external to the kits.]

I use the P05/P09 combination. I leave mine powered all the time. Do they consume a couple watts of electricity per day? Is that terribly important?

When I have accidentally powered them down before the amps were turned off, I heard minimal noise from the speakers. No big deal. If it bothers you, turn the amp off first.

I couldn't figure out the use of relay, either, so I never bothered with it.

Peace,
Tom E
