Not at all. The thread starter clearly stated that he is looking for "emotion" as illustrated by Diane Kraal, Norah Jones etc. I doubt if Mahler or Mingus would do him any good.
Maybe Joni Mitchell "Mingus"
In my youth I liked Joni Mitchell "Mingus" -- but her last album made my ears bleed.
I think "It's time to put ol' Dixie down..."
I'm going to recommend... Lara Fabian
Gorgeous voice, plenty of emotion in both vocals and performance.

Portishead is awesome! I only have the track Cowboys from their Live in NYC album, gotta love it. Also got the whole self titled album 'Portishead'
As for emotion, I have to say the Nirvana album 'Live from the muddy banks of the Wishkah'
-Its still dirty grunge, but the emotion that Cobain puts into his music is unreal. Much like Unplugged
Also lots of stuff by Pink Floyd, namely Comfortably Numb, Learning to fly, On the turning away, The great gig in the sky, Time, the list goes on...
Almost everything by BB King too lol.
Then there's Moby Dick by Led Zeppelin, where Bonham does his drum solo.
And lots of stuff by the great Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Then you simply cannot forget Deep Purple's live rendition of 'Child in time'
Theres lots more, but you gotta draw a line somewhere!

Almost forty years ago, had the pleasure to appear with Mr. Simándy. I was as a member of children choir stood on the stage.
I do not remember exactly, maybe Elisabeth Szőnyi songs we presented together. Then he presented his famous piece. Then I realized what a voice. That is, until he sang with us, the children choir, he has restrained his voice, in order for it to be possible to be audible something from us. Then, alone, is completely filled his voice of the huge concert hall.
Köszönöm, Simándy József!

Since the campaign silence ended already, I would like it a little to give an explanation, why the above aria got here yet besides.
The text of this may explain this mostly however. I tried to translate because of this.
Not an artistic creation, but since you may know me already:
Mint száműzött, ki vándorol
As exiles, who migrated
A sűrű éjen át,
The dense night long,
Vad förgetegben nem lelé
In wild whirlwind unable to find
Vezérlő csillagát,
His guiding star,
Az emberszív is úgy bolyong,
The human heart is so wander
Oly egyes-egyedül,
So alone,
Úgy tépi kinn az orkán,
This by tearing apart the hurricane,
Mint az önvád itt belül.
As for remorse, here within.
Csak egy nagy érzés éltetett
Just a great feeling is life-giving for me
Sok gond és gyász alatt,
During many worry and grief
Hogy szent hazám és hős nevem
That my holy homeland and my heroic name
Szeplőtlen megmarad.
Immaculate remained.
Most mind a kettő orvosra vár,
Now both are waiting for doctors,
S míg itt töprenkedem,
And while here I thinking,
Hazám borítja szemfödél,
My country is covered with shrouds,
Elvész becsületem!
My honor gets lost!
Hazám, hazám, te mindenem!
My homeland, my homeland, you're my everything!
Tudom, hogy mindenem neked köszönhetem.
I know that everything I owe to you.
Arany mezők, ezüst folyók,
Fields of gold, silver rivers,
Hős vértől ázottak, könnytől áradók.
Tipsy hero's blood, tears flowing.
Sajgó sebét felejti Bánk,
Bánk forget his aching wound,
Zokog, de szolgálja népe szent javát.
Weeping, but he serves to the people of the sacred benefit.
Magyar hazám, te mindenem!
Hungarian homeland, you're my everything!
Te érted bátran meghalok,
I don't afraid to die for you,
Te szent magyar hazám!
Thy holy Hungarian homeland!
I ask who knows better one at this, let him not conceal it.
Gyuri

Ani Difranco's "Not a Pretty Girl" is an amazing album. Great songs with deep, honest, emotional lyrics. She is, IMHO, one of the best singers for that gendre and also a great guitarist. She is acompanied by Andy Stochansky, one of the great drummers of the 90s indie generation. The production of that album is just right: clean and simple. The engineering is nigh perfect making for a great listening experience. Songs like "32 Flavours" or "Sorry I am" are great examples.
Some of the "emotional" music i sometime listen to(in FLAC ofcourse):
Foreigner- Waiting for a girl like you
Mr.Mister-Broken wings
Bryan Adams-Run to you
Berlin-Take my breath away
**** Robin-The promise you made
Phil Collins-In the air tonight
Tracy Chapman-Fast Car
Hall&Oates-Maneater
I think 80's music is generally very emotional...
EDIT: the name of the artist is censored because it's C0ck.It's not my fault that his parents named him after a male reproduction organ.
