Muse M20 ex

Recently i received a Muse M20 ex tripath amplifier from ebay.

I like the device very much, and the build quality is good.

When i studied the print i found two variable potentiometers.

You can see them on the attached image.

Can anyone tell me what they do, and what happens when i turn the screws?
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

I added some photo's of the device when it arrived in the netherlands.

It played for a while and i think it keeps sounding better and better!

Besides this I have a few minor problems:

First, it could give a little more bass than it does now
Second, When I turn up the voume to a high level, sometimes it stops and halve a second later again.

I use a 13.5V 4A power supply. Does anyone know what can be done about it?

I would like to know more about the device, what is good, and what is bad about it, what tweaks will make it perform better? Are there big differences between this amp and a Topping TA20?

Muse audio M20 EX TA2020 Amp (testing)

I've been experimenting a little with the muse audio. I changed the speakers for a set of Wharfedale diamond 8.4. The amp has been playing for a few hours now, and i'm getting more and more astonished with the performance out of such a little device.

I also own a Pioneer VSX receiver which has more power than the M20, but i definetely like the detailed sound of the Muse better.

I hope to get some reactions of what you guys think of the device!

That's right. It's not for bass. But the time when I missed the bass is already over. After it played in for a while the sound became more and more balanced. I am really satisfied with this amp.

What do you all think of the amp? Maybe there is some room for improvement on the components?

I just received the same amp today all the way from China. WOW!!!!😱

This thing sounds amazing, with my large high efficiency 16 ohm speakers (look at my signature for pics), I get plenty of bass! and everything else. It sounds much better than my Denon PMA-2000ivr in many ways. It is extremely clear and clean, highs extend very well beyond it. I did try it with my high power 8 ohm version Cathedrals, but it sounded a bit underpowered. This is certainly a gem find in audio. It uncovers some hidden detail and sound stage in music. Dare say it rivals some of my tube gear.

I think the only improvement could be a heftier external power supply.

Quite happy and it is playing now.

I changed the stock power supply with a Mean Well switching power supply (13.8V 4A) and the sound improved again. The power supply is one of the most important parts of a good Ta2020 setup.

I had a little issue with the sound at low volumes. Sometimes, mostly with loud basses the device simply skipped (it was quiet for a fraction of a second). 😕 I took me long before i found the reason for it. At first I thought of a lag of power from the supply. I changed it for a meanwell 12V 25A device and the problem stayed.

The signal cable (from laptop jack plug to input) that i used was a 5m cheap one.. I changed it for a profigold 1.5m cable and the problem was gone!!

What a nice amp it is!!
