I apologize if this is a stupid obvious question...
I have an older PCM1704K DAC and was wondering the benefits of either:
1. One single 1.5A regulated power supply for the Receiver chip (WM8804) and the Digital Filter (DF1704), Toslink, etc
2. Separate regulators (LM317) for each, Receiver Chip, Digital Filter, Other Digital stuff (Toslink, relays etc)
In other words, one great regulator vs 3 less so but separate regulators. The second scenario, I guess there would be little interference between the 3 circuits, hence 'easier' job for the regulators.
The DAC get their own supply, and the IV also gets its own supply, that I will leave as is.
Thanks for input !!!!

One regulator for the digital supply is enough:
o Digital Logic is not very level sensitive
o Digital Logic produces glitches which are mutch faster than a typical regulator.
Use the money for proper decoupling (R-C, Ferrite Beads)

hi mfrimu,
I have crossed that same question, what I did find on most high end gear,They build one PS to digital circuits and one for analog,I also added a circuit to drive the analog output stage,I have also used LM3xx regs and Fets to regulate the analog outputs, some say that there is more noise with the lm3xx variety but I can't hear any noise,so I am happy,
I do use os-cons in the digital circuits and by pass on the chip with .1 ceramics and a 10 uf electrolytic,Lampizator did a lot of cap test on the chines dac and has a good test results of different sounds and test for dacs, and outputs analog,A good clean PS works wonders build a couple try them out !Checkout Juma and Salas,Russ White on this forum ,Great designs! I have built a lot of their circuits and they work well !
Have a GREAT DAY !
