Multiple Drivers - Series and Parallel Wiring

I have eight 4 ohm speakers.

Is it any different in the end or does it matter if I wire them as:

1. Two speakers wired in series and the four pairs wired in parallel.

2. Two speakers wired in parallel and the four pairs wired in series.

Also in situations where different ohm values are wired together are the net results as follows:

4 ohm load plus an 8 ohm load in series = 12 ohm load?

4 ohm load plus an 8 ohm load in parrallel = 3 ohm load?

I'd go for 4x2 (seriesxparallel), which would give 4 ohm *4/2=8 ohms.
...or get a ninth driver and go 3x3, and you'd get 4 ohm * 3/3=4 ohms.
