I just got a Fluke 287. Not cheap but Circuit Specialists is running a special giving about $150 off on them, plus they throw in a free cheapo meter (www.CircuitSpecialists.com)

Protek is not bad -- much less expensive than Fluke but not same quality. I like mine except for a kind of dim display with an easily scratched cover and a puny-sounding chirp when doing continuity checks. I think it was about $150 a few years ago. http://www.protektest.com/main.asp

Bench or portable, do you have any desired features? What's your intended use?

I haven't seen a broadband AC meter for less then ~$300 or so, most roll off above ~5000Hz and below ~40Hz.

Flukes are very durable - the sales reps sometimes demonstrate by measuring something, then throwing them across the room, picking them up and measuring again...
