There are lots of basic DMMs like that one out there. I have a few of them around my shop. They usually work just fine for a while and will do the job for basic testing. For long life and reliable performance I have always used the Fluke brand meters. For 35 years they have provided good service for my needs and I use a meter pretty much every day. If you can find a good used Fluke it is worth considering. The other thing to do is to pick up a second meter as a backup and for those times when 2 meters make a job much easier, such as when biasing a power amp where you need to monitor bias voltage and output offset at the same time.

Hi,

I can wholeheartedly recommend Brymen.
Very robust/safe, very good performance, much better price/value than Fluke.
The BM235 (~90€ in Ger) and the BM867s (~150€ in Ger) ... the latter rivaling Fluke´s 287/289 in performance and much easier handling.

I don't suggest Brymen. I have bought the 867 two years ago. Last year the Vdc range stopped to work. It was sent back to TME Poland and came back in a month. Now is broken again. I don't think I will send it again to repair.

Drive a Mercedes?
Buy your ratchets and sockets from Snap-On?
New test equipment from Agilent?
Need something that should last for another 40 years? (i.e. how old are you?)
🙂
Then Fluke should be your choice for a handheld DMM.
I'm happy with my UNI-T handhelds (and some old old HP digital bench meters...)

Hi,

I´m sorry that Your Brymen sidn´t work as they ar eknown to do.
But then kjust last week I needed to change the Ultracap in our Fluke 289.
The original Cap a very cheap part and prone to fail .....
A ridicule for a almost 700 bucks item.
Will say, that any manufacturer´s devices can have a weak point ... the cheaper probabely more than the expensive ones, but nontheless.
And Brymen is as least as solidly built as Fluke ..... it´s just 1/2 -1/3 the price and alot better UI.
Haven´t used the Fluke ever since, neither my colleague - who also bought it after I showed him mine.
