Great amp. Remove the cap that bypasses the 6J1 cathode resistor and the amp will sound astoundingly good.
Would someone please point out the referenced capacitor to me in the photograph bellow?
Thanks in advance, Bill!
Turquoise ones with the silver stripe. Please report back if that was a good mod to you or it wasn't.
Hello,
I know I'm reviving an old thread here, but I just happened across it as I've been searching a bit trying to decide if I want to a. upgrade my original MP-301 to a newer version or other tube amp, b. purchase a T amp or c. buy new tubes and mod my current amp.
I think I'm leaning towards C right now 😀
Anyway, I just removed the two caps mentioned earlier in this thread. I shall have to listen later as my puppy wants to play right now.

Just thought I'd bump this post up as a few guys over on Canuck Audio have been spurring me on to post mods for the MP301 MK2 & MK3 versions. Essentially MP has made halved the main filter values to 180uf from 390 uf and the current design still overdrives the second stage in a very bad way. Just snip out C6 and C6a (Cathode Bypass) and this will smarten things up big time. If anyone is curious there are photos and such over on CAM in the forums.

Pete,
I know this is a late response, but I have the MK3 version and I swapped out the supplied preamp tubes with a pair of NOS RCA 6SJ7s and have had no humming issues.
