Let us consider the basic (4th order) bandpass enclosure. There are sealed and ported chambers. In most bandpass subwoofers, they are usually mounted driver in the sealed room, where cone facing ported room. What if we flip the mounting in the opposite direction? Says cone facing sealed room and magnet in ported room. Will the sound be the same? Does it need any modifications or just flip the driver without any mods?
Net volume will need adjusted on both sides due to the displacement of the driver.
Putting the motor in the ported side could help with coil temp a little.

I've heard people over the years state that having the magnet in the ported side helps to reduce harmonics, as smaller wavelengths are blocked before they reach the port.
Whether that's true or not I've never tested.

First, be sure to do this:What if we flip the mounting in the opposite direction? Says cone facing sealed room and magnet in ported room. Will the sound be the same? Does it need any modifications or just flip the driver without any mods?
Then, observe: If the vented volume is small and if the woofer magnet is big and the cone is deep, there is a bigger chance to miscalculate the correct vented volume. Also it may interfere with the vent in a bad way.Net volume will need adjusted on both sides due to the displacement of the driver.
If the vented volume is big enough, than it is OK.
Also, as a benefit:
Putting the motor in the ported side could help with coil temp a little.
Just a quick FWIW that I'd always put the magnet in the ported side.
A small sealed chamber is a nightmare for a driver that's going to see any real power.

Prescott, consider this, its pretty substantial and a definite potential issue in lots of environments or high level of use or sustained low excursion even.

You can smell it before it dies better that way but if motor has some vent noise you might hear them better as well
