Motor run caps - current production

I too found DC-linked caps very good sounding. In fact, I just gave away a box a ASC x386s last week as I feel I never need them any more.

I use choke input filtering - not sure if this makes any difference. In any case, all caps are WIMA DC-linked caps in my single tube (P2) SET headphone amp now. I did not try other brands though…

I like HD650 and built my headphone amp with that in mind. I did not notice any loss of low frequency switching to DC-linked caps (in fact, I used slightly less value when switching to DC-linked caps), but gained more transparency/dynamics.

That’s of course just my own experiences…

A few of my enclosures have big holes designed for ASC x386 caps. I now use DC-linked MKP4s which take much less room - I can even leave my ASCs in place but disconnected from circuit.

Cornell Dubilier SF are as good if not better than ASC (Check Tony Gee's capacitor ratings) Obviously he tested them as caps in a loudspeaker crossover. But I find his tests translate well when caps are used as coupling caps in tube amps or ofcourse in this case as psu caps.

Do you think "SF" Type is better than "Z Power Supply" Type?

I'm not sure which one would be better for tube PSU

Those plastic motor run caps sounded pretty meh to me. They're big, bulky and frankly not very good. I used to use them a lot but when I discovered DC Link caps it was a no-brainer - I sold the lot. Polypropylene doesn't mean all caps sound the same - far from it. Don't bother with these - get DC Link caps from Kemet etc.
I've noticed some DC link caps (I'd never heard of them before your post) have four terminals, how are these connected? Are they like a DNM four terminal electrolytic?
