Monochrome LCD

I've tried to search through the "Good panel / Bad panel" thread to find a small monochrome LCD, but the thread is just to huge that it makes it a task to find anything. I realise this is a forum is mainly about video projection, and there would probably be little need for a monochrome LCD, but I will explain.

What I'm trying to do is build a light that can project a variety of different patterns, uploaded to a microcontroller in .bmp format from a computer and stored in EEPROM. I am looking for an LCD that is small in physical size with a resolution of about 100 * 100 pixels, but I don't need it to be colour.

The idea is to project a focussed beam of light from a HMI575 discharge lamp onto the LCD, and then use another lens to to focus and increase the size of the output. I know this request is a little unconventional, but any and all help would be greatly appreciated, and a link to a UK supplier would be excellent.

Thanks again,

Matthew

Small monochrome lcd. doesnt maplin sell stuff like that. For displaying stuff on small devices, like pro rack equipment.

it would be quite expensive a maplin though. There are devinatly products like that out there. but why not just use a colour lcd, like a psx screen as discussed in that other thread? it would probably be cheaper or as cheap as any monochrome device device you could get your hands on.

Im sure you would create much more disco fever using colour. look at 'staying alive' there was plenty of colour there.

I'm pretty sure that he's going to be using filter gels for color.

I like the idea. You might want to try www.digikey.com. I've ordered various circuit board level components from them, they're quick and friendly. They have a monster selection, but I think their prices are a little high.

If you need some schematics, you may want to check www.e-panorama.net it's an electronic DIYer's dream. There's thousands of free circuit designs there, popup free too 🙂.

I've tried maplin and they only seem to have colour LCD's. The problem here is that colour isn't required, it will be on a seperate wheel with stepper motor. Having colour only makes programming the microcontroller that little bit more difficult, bearing in mind I have only used alphanumeric LCD's before.

Will try digikey and get back to you if I find anything of use.

Cheers!

Matthew
