hello everybody,

i have a monica usb, and i would like to know if i can attach an smps with a -12 /12 v supply. i have red that with more than 12v monica is better, even up to 24v.

i have just found out that my smps can do that. it is a 100w smps. it can sink 1 amp in -12v.

so if i connect +12 to the positive and the -12 to the 0, what would happen then ? a big blow and some smoke , or just fine sound ?

thanx a lot

I have USB Monica also. And there is nothing happen if I attach the lady to +12 / -12 VDC. But the best range is 15 to 18 VDC. The sound will be more harsh and harsh if I load it with 24 VDC since the LM 317 power regulator temperatur rise significantly. So if you try to use 24 VDC please attach the heat sink to the LM 317.

I think TDA 1545 have weakness in higher temperatur.

Boy.

so it will work with the -12/12 volt ? or will it do nothing ?

maybe i can build somthing to get the 24 volt to 18 but will 1 amp be enough to get the glorie of monica ? or does she needs more than 1 amp ?

i can attach a huge heatsink to the lm317, that wouldn't be a problem at all. but the sound is more inportant.

oh yeah: if i connect the + of monica at 5v and i connect the zero at -12: then i'm at 17 volt. could work don't you think ?

ps: what outcap do you use, cause i have hear that the black gates aren't that good in that place? i wonder if anyone has disconnect one of the black gates and made a super e cap with the other. and then compared one channel with the super e cap and the other with something like a film cap or so ?

Hanyaboy, what voltage did you settle on for your Monica? If higher than 12 volt did you make any changes to components on the board?

then_dude, AFAIK Monica is designed to use a 12 volt supply and I have been running her on a 12 volt SMPS with no problem.
