WOW What a Sweet lil amp!!!!!
I had bought the amp second hand for my office system
Hooked up to the very nice and affordable Triton MLTL
Speakers from Jeff Bagby. From the very first moment I
pressed play I knew I had something Special!
LIQUID! Ive never really heard a Solid state amp sound so
much like a tube amp with bass Slam It wasn't long before I
had to bring it home to try on the Thiels
The Thiel CS5i are a tough load on any amp, plunging down to
1.8 Ohms at 40 hz and 3 Ohms for the most part.
I have been driving them with Pass Labs AlephO monoblocks .
Like the Monarchy this is a class A design and runs hot all the time.
The little amps are in the same league as the AlephO as far as
Sweetness and Musicality!

SM 70 is a non feedback mosfet power buffer with OPA604 voltage stage.
Maybe the buffer could by improved for DIY

The same with transnova : http://www.tubecad.com/2011/11/14/Sagaris V-to-I Amplifier.png

HI BIG
I've seen some comments on this amp, you're not the only one to be surprised
In my opinion it sounds good because it use a class A lateral mosfet buffer without global feedback.

I had the opportunity to use SM-70 at an audioFEST -- 1 channel each of 2 of the amps switched into Class A. I was very impressed.

SM70 Pro Wow!
I bought an SM70 Pro second hand a couple of months back. I'm driving a pair of Elsinore's by Joe Rasmussen (featured elsewhere on speakers multiway forum). I'm gob smacked by how good it sounds. It's only rated at 25W per channel but blows away my previous amp which was 140W per channel. When demonstrating it to friends I let them guess what O/P power it is and they all say at least 100w pch. A very detailed and non fatiguing listen. I didn't know much about Monarchy amps before but I'm now looking to buy another one and run them as dual mono blocks. If I can't buy another one second hand I'll be willing to pay full price for a new one. I was very curious to hear what others had to say re this lovely little amp, hence this post. Note : I just did a search for posts re Monarchy so I hope I haven't hijacked someones thread.

The schematic for this amp is a closely guarded secret by it's designer. I asked for a copy of the schematic when I bought the 1st amp just in case I needed to work on it in future but was told it has some "Secret Sauce" in it's design and would not be shared. I guess I could trace it out if I was desperate but as yet they have been faultless. You can buy the amps new from Monarchy. I'm sure they are still available. Lovely amps.
