I seem to have trouble inserting pins that are linked this way. They hang up when I try to insert them in the nylon slot. I trim them carefully with dykes, but no go. Have no trouble with loose pins or those connected to a strip at the base. Anybody else notice this?

I think that type is for a "machine gun" crimper, which not only crimps the wire but also has punches specifically to trim the ears, closer than you can do with dykes.
