Quick question. I have a mogul base 250w MH attached to a big heavy M58 ballast. The bulb takes about 10 mins. to warm up to full brightness. Is this because of the ballast or the bulb?
If I hooked it (the bulb) up to an electronic ballast (i.e. Ice Cap) would it still have to warm up or would it be instantly at full brightness? Thanks.

Ok, could everyone take a break from trying to sell everybody something and please answer my question. I though this was Do-It-Yourself, not Sell-It-Yourself....
I have not tried an electronic ballast, but from what I have read everywhere, yes it will reach full brightnes faster. One thing to consider is if you are using a probe-start bulb, It needs to hit a specific temp before it will reach full brightness. If you are using a pulse start bulb, it will reach full brightness much faster. The way to tell which type the bulb is: probe start has a 3rd electrode in the bulb that is attached to a heat sensative switch in the outer bulb area. A pulse start bulb has only the 2 electrodes at either end of the bulb.
I plan to upgrade to a pulse start soon.
