Some sound advice from EchoWars.
IMO it would have been a very bad thing to mess about with the IC as IME with these kind of amps they are not STK modules but Technics proprietary chips. The topology is completely different to the common power amp chips that alot of DIYers are using.

I'm loving Skinny's posts in between logical uhhh...information.
Well, I'll just sit patient until I can buy myself a better receiver...H/K, Yamaha, etc. ...still waiting for a potentiometer.

like sweet?... heres a lil honey
SVI3205... 100w/ch > SVI3206 130w/ch
much better than STK and will defacate on them cheap monolithic ICs
SVI 3205 features 2X 100W (RMS) new class A High Current Drive output Stage
Full onboard pre amp & thump/dethump/overload/DC-DET ciruit
requires few ext components
SMD resistors
using anything other than SVI will be a downgrade...
if however you do change - send me the SVI 😛

Well, I've decided against yanking her apart considering she didn't deserve the broken pot. Right now I'm just looking for a stereo pot to solder on and crank up the tunes once more.
Thought I would post this here because of the specific amp.
Getting ready to go pick up some equipment, is it worth the $75? Was bought originally as a package deal except for the Sony. Includes original speakers. Turntable was recently sold 🙁
How nice a sound does the amp have?
Technics ST-S78 TUNER
TECHNICS RS-T18 DOUBLE CASSETTE DECK
TECHNICS SU-V78 AMP
? HI-FIDA4 VHS PLAYER
TECHNICS SL-PC33 5 DISK PLAYER
SONY CDP-C315 5-DISK PLAYER
SOME OPERATING INSTRUCTION BOOKLETS
Plus glass front stand

If you don't already have a system that would be a great building block. The Technics stuff isn't too bad.
PS, SVI, I have that IC if you want it.

Old thread.
I just got a Technics SU-Z780 integrated amps with the same SVI 3205 chip amp (actually I think it's some surface-mount parts all potted into a stereo amp epoxy block), for $6 on eBay, for my daughter to use with her ipod dock and some minimus speakers. Sure is a simple amp, and fan cooled! About 80 watts a channel, rated 100/channel. Who knows what Technics means by "new class A" as it certainly isn't really class-a biased.
