Modifying stereo for digital out

Anyone have any links for modifying a stereo? I am looking to take a stock car cd player...and modify it to take S/PDIF output. I currently have a stereo with dig out....but I am looking at doing it more stealthy....so if someone looks in the car....they would only see a stock stereo... 🙂

You need to find the DAC IC on the circuit board, look up it's datasheet, and determine what pins to tap for the digital signals. You then have to build a circuit using CS8405/CS8406 or DIT4096 to take the serial audio data and encode it to S/PDIF. It's relatively easy, but it could be pretty challenging if you've never worked with digital circuits before. You also might break your CDP.

Here is one such example; you might need to modify it to use the proper format and MCK timing for your stereo.

Beware, I believe some cheap CD players have integrated controllers/DACs. There may not be serial audio data exposed that you can tap.
