There are several papers which prove the sonic value of a round port with flanged exits for smooth air flow.
B&W Nautilus work recommends a floor port of Diameter_D should be at least 1.5*D above the floor, but Diameter=D=height_above_floor is common recommendation on diyAudio.

Basically I'd agree, because a circle's circumference is the smallest one of all possibilities at a given area. But as said before, I'm heavily resticted by the allowed height and width of my enclosures. There simply ain't not enough space besides a 15" woofer and a butt-cheeks biradial horn for two 4" ports. There are several papers which prove the sonic value of a round port with flanged exits for smooth air flow.
Best regards!
both triangular ports together will represent the same area as a square of 12.8 cm length, which is exactly the same cross section area of two circular ports of 10.2 cm internal diameter.
Again: Modifying a bass reflex/vented box properly

This falls in line with the pioneer's 3*radius.
